Thailand has been named one of the world’s best destinations for retirement in 2015. This report cites several reasons such as ease of buying and renting properties, a cost of living, fitting in, entertainment and amenities, affordable and world-class health care, infrastructure, and climate. Thais have an accepting nature and being hospitable comes naturally to them too. Known as a welcoming country for retirees, Thailand issues retirement visa but does not stipulate an annual minimum stay. Retirees are eligible for visas at the relatively young age of 50. They only need to offer proof of income which currently starts at around 65,000 Baht (around US$2,100) a month.

Many of Bangkok’s expat choose to live in the city center because of the easy access to public transportation and the choice of the some of the best accommodation they can find. There are also suburbs that offer a slower pace of life but within easy access to downtown Bangkok. Thailand is also very accessible to different countries around Southeast Asia, Vietnam is only an hour away flight. Thailand has a law against foreigners purchasing land and homes, so condominiums are a popular choice of accommodation for expats and retirees. A modern two bedroom/two bathroom condo in the heart of the city can be rented for as low as $1,300 a month.
